Writing A Research Paper About Literature: How To Choose The Right Topic
No matter what type of essay the writer is creating, the process we go through to decide what the correct topic to write about is the same. In this case we are writing about literature. Now answer the following questions:
- What is your favorite type of literature?
- Who is your favorite author?
- What is your favorite work by your favorite author?
- List 5 things that you liked about your favorite book in question 3
You may not realize it, but you now have a goldmine sitting on that piece of paper. You are looking at your theme for your research paper about literature. The easiest and best subject will be one that you enjoy writing about and one that you have a wealth of information about. So now, based on those 2 factors, decide what your topic will be. Now the real fun begins.
From topic to final draft
With the answers of those questions staring you in the face, your topic may just jump right out at you. With your theme in hand, now comes the research. Get as much research as possible and take excellent notes. As you research your theme, questions begin to formulate in your mind. The paper begins to flow and you begin to learn what your thesis may be. Your next objective is to decide on your thesis. Make sure you have gathered enough information and begin to tackle the outline. This is your map of how your paper is going to proceed. Start with your major points in your paper. Then add in the highlights where they belong in your outline. After you have completed the outline, it is time to write your rough draft. If your research was thorough and your outline was detailed enough, your rough draft should be a piece of cake. You should feel real good now because the hardest work is done. At this point, you may want to get some advice from your mentors on how your paper is progressing. After following his guidelines and making your adjustments, write your final draft.
The reader’s take
Hopefully, what you loved about the issue you chose will be apparent enough and the reader may begin to love the same things. Sometimes the reader can see and feel the excitement when he reads the paper and begin to see what the writer saw. He begins to feel the emotions that arose in the writer when he read the book or poem. How exciting it is for you as the writer to know that you created the same feelings in another human being and you are responsible for the love he now has for the topic.
